Winnfield Man Killed In Crash

On Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at 4:19 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash involving two vehicles. The crash occurred on LA Hwy 1231-2 (Horseshoe Road), north of US Hwy 167, in Winn Parish.

The crash involved a 1989 Ford pickup, driven by Ms. Annie K. Jordan (W/F 50 yrs) of Winnfield, LA and a 2004 Ford pickup, driven by Mr. Henry D. Jordan (W/M 27 yrs) of Winnfield, LA. Both vehicles were north bound on LA Hwy 1231-2 when Ms. Jordan decreased her speed in an effort to avoid a turtle in the roadway. At this time, Mr. Jordan attempted to pass Ms. Jordan’s vehicle in a legal passing zone. Ms. Jordan attempted further evasive action in an effort to avoid the turtle by swerving across the centerline into the south bound lane. In an effort to avoid Ms. Jordan’s vehicle, Mr. Jordan swerved to the left and exited the roadway. He then overcorrected his vehicle, reentered LA Hwy 1231-2, and exited the right side of the roadway. Mr. Jordan’s vehicle then traveled through a ditch before colliding with a private driveway. Mr. Jordan’s vehicle then began to roll before coming to final rest.

Ms. Jordan was not injured in the crash. Ms. Felicia Wilson (29 yrs) of Winnfield, LA and two juveniles were passengers in Ms. Jordan’s vehicle. All three passengers were not injured.

Mr. Henry D. Jordan was ejected during the crash and was pronounced dead. He was not wearing his seatbelt. His only passenger, Mr. William L. Chandler (29 yrs) of Georgetown, LA received moderate injuries and was transported to Winn Medical Center.

Routine toxicology tests are pending.

Winn Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of death.

The crash remains under investigation.

Five fatal crashes have involved an ATV and five have involved a motorcycle. Twenty-nine of the 36 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants.
