Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: January 28, 2009 Pedestrian Killed In Rapides Parish Crash Early this morning a pedestrian was killed while walking in the roadway. Troopers responded to the fatal crash around 1:30 am, which occurred on LA Hwy 497 at Sandersville Road. The crash involved a 2009 Ford Mustang, driven by Adam Chance Cloud (W/M 21 yrs) of Glenmora, LA and a pedestrian, identified as Santanna M. Johnson (B/F 23 yrs) of Leesville, LA. Cloud advised Troopers that he had observed Johnson walking on the shoulder of the roadway and had swerved towards the centerline when Johnson entered the roadway and his lane of travel. Cloud attempted further evasive action, but was unsuccessful and collided with Johnson. Cloud was not injured during the crash. Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing blue jeans and a black jacket. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated six fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in seven fatalities. Two of the four fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. One crash has involved a motorcycle and one has involved a pedestrian.
