Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: February 16, 2009 Motorcyclist Killed In Single Vehicle Crash A Colfax man was killed earlier today in a single vehicle crash near Tioga. Troopers responded to the fatal crash around 4:45 pm, which occurred on US 167 (Pineville Expressway) between Kingsville and Tioga. The crash involved a 2009 Harley Davidson, driven by Herbert G. Cross (W/M 56 yrs) of Colfax, LA. Cross was north bound on US 167 when he lost control and exited the right side of the roadway at the US 71/LA Hwy 3225 exit. Upon exiting the roadway, he collided with an exit sign prior to coming to rest. Cross was transported to Huey P. Long Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was wearing a helmet. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Cross was a retired Trooper from the Louisiana State Police. Troop E Troopers have investigated nine fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in ten fatalities. Four of the six fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Two crashes have involved a motorcycle and one has involved a pedestrian.
