Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: February 21, 2009 Teenager Dies In Avoyelles Parish Crash A single vehicle crash has claimed the life of a Cottonport teenager when the vehicle she was driving crashed late last night south of Plaucheville. Troopers responded to the fatal crash around 11:05 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 107. The crashed involved a 1998 Ford pickup, driven by Lauren Elizabeth Rodney (W/F 17 yrs) of Cottonport, LA. Rodney was north bound on LA Hwy 107 when she lost control and ran partially off the right side of the roadway. She then overcorrected her vehicle and exited the left side of the roadway. After the vehicle entered the south bound ditch, the vehicle began to overturn. Rodney was ejected from the vehicle and was trapped under it. She was not wearing her seatbelt and was pronounced dead. A male juvenile from Plaucheville, LA and Chelsa St. Romain (18 yrs) of Plaucheville, LA were passengers in Rodney’s vehicle. Both passengers were not wearing their seatbelts and sustained moderate injuries. They were transported to Avoyelles Hospital. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated 10 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 11 fatalities. Five of the seven fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Two crashes have involved a motorcycle and one has involved a pedestrian.
