Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: February 25, 2009 Crash On I-49 Kills Two A man and a woman were killed early Monday morning on I-49 in Natchitoches Parish. Troopers responded to the fatal crash around 6:45 am, which occurred on I-49 (milepost 135) north of the Waterwell Road exit. The crash involved a 1998 Ford Expedition, driven by Levy L. Munoz (W/M 60 yrs) of Kenner, LA. The Ford was south bound when Munoz drifted off the left side of the roadway. He then overcorrected his vehicle and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the right side of the roadway, the vehicle traveled down an embankment and began overturning. The vehicle then collided with a tree, which caused both occupants to be ejected. Munoz was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead. His only passenger, a 39-year-old female, was also pronounced dead. Her identity is not being released at this time. An update with her identity will be released as soon as notification to the next of kin is made. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated 11 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 13 fatalities. Six of the eight fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Two crashes have involved a motorcycle and one has involved a pedestrian.
