Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: January 8, 2009 Crash In Sabine Parish Claims The Life Of An Elderly Lady Early this morning Troopers investigated a crash that killed a woman and injured a man west of Negreet, LA. Troop E Troopers responded to the fatal crash around 9:30 am, which occurred on LA Hwy 191 at Walkersville Road. The crash involved a 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by Ernestine S. Dees (W/F 80 yrs) of Many, LA and a 1998 Ford pickup, driven by Billy M. Ford (W/M 75 yrs) of Many, LA. Prior to the crash, the Chevrolet was east bound on Walkersville Road and the Ford was south bound on LA Hwy 191. As the Ford approached the intersection, the Chevrolet entered LA Hwy 191 and failed to yield to the approaching Ford. This action caused the Ford to collide with the driver’s side of the Chevrolet. Dees was wearing her seatbelt, but was pronounced dead at the scene. Ford was wearing his seatbelt and received moderate injuries. He was transported to Sabine Medical Center for treatment. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated three fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in four fatalities. One of the three fatal crashes has involved an unrestrained motorist.
