Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: December 8, 2008 Fatal Crash In Natchitoches Parish On Monday, December 08, 2008, at 1:32 am, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash involving two vehicles. The crash occurred on I-49, milepost 156.7, in Natchitoches Parish. The crash involved a 1999 Sterling (18-wheeler), driven by Mr. Lorenzo Hurst (B/M 36 yrs) of Bossier City, LA and a 1989 Toyota Camry, driven by Mr. Dorris Morris (B/M 70 yrs) of Robeline, LA. Both vehicles were north bound on I-49 (outside lane) when the Sterling collided with the rear portion of the Toyota. After impact, both vehicles exited the right side of the roadway and both collided with the same tree with the Sterling on top of the Toyota. Mr. Hurst was not injured and was cited for Careless Operation. Mr. Morris was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Natchitoches Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of death. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated 60 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 70 fatalities. Ten of the 60 fatal crashes have involved pedestrians. Five fatal crashes have involved an ATV and five have involved a motorcycle. Thirty-three of the 40 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Ten fatal victims were restrained.
