Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: December 19, 2008 DeRidder Man Killed In ATV Crash A man has been killed and a young woman moderately injured in yet another ATV crash in the Troop E area. Troopers responded to the fatal ATV crash today at 3:36 pm, which occurred on Webster Maricle Road and is located in the Pitkin, LA area. The crash involved a 1987 Honda TRX, driven by Ricky Adam Warton Jr. (W/M 31 yrs) of DeRidder, LA. Warton Jr. was operating the Honda east bound on Webster Maricle Road and attempting to pass another ATV when he lost control. After losing control, he collided with a pine tree. Warton Jr. was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead. His passenger, Ashley Stubbs (18 yrs) of DeRidder, LA received moderate injuries and was transported to Beauregard Memorial Hospital. Impairment is unknown at this time, but routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated 62 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 72 fatalities. Eleven of the 62 fatal crashes have involved pedestrians. Six fatal crashes have involved an ATV and five have involved a motorcycle. Thirty-three of the 40 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants.
