Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: December 19, 2008 Former Hessmer Police Chief Arrested After a lengthy investigation, the former Hessmer Police Chief was arrested today and charged with a felony. The investigation began in March 2008 when a former employee of the Hessmer Police Department contacted Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations and made a formal complaint against Joseph Mack Villemarette (W/M 50 yrs) of 418 Lake Pearl Road, Hessmer, LA. In August 2008, State Police Investigators served a search warrant that they had obtained and seized various items from the Hessmer Police Department. Some of the items seized were video tapes. It was determined that on one of the video tapes Villemarette filmed himself and a female having sexual intercourse and Villemarette can be seen in the video hiding the video camera. The videoing took place without the consent of the female involved. State Police Investigators obtained an arrest warrant and arrested Villemarette. He was charged with Video Voyeurism (LRS 14:238) and booked into the Avoyelles Parish Jail with a bond of $25,000.00. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are likely. The investigation is being conducted with the full cooperation of the present Hessmer Police Chief.
