| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: December 25, 2008 Glenmora Man Killed In Crash A tragedy has been bestowed upon the family and friends of a man killed in a crash near Cotile Lake around noon yesterday. Troopers responded to a fatal crash yesterday at 12:15 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 1200 at Tonti Drive. The crash involved a 2004 Ford Taurus, driven by Ronnie N. Sanders (W/M 33 yrs) of Glenmora, LA. Sanders was west bound on LA Hwy 1200 when he lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the Ford impacted a private driveway and then several pine trees before coming to rest on its roof. Sanders was wearing his seatbelt; however, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor, but routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, seatbelts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury. Lack of seatbelt usage is still the leading cause of fatalities in motor vehicle crashes. Last year 68% of all fatalities in Louisiana involved lack of seatbelt usage and 80% of children (below 5 yrs) killed in crashes were not properly restrained. Troop E Troopers have investigated 63 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 73 fatalities. Eleven of the 63 fatal crashes have involved pedestrians. Six fatal crashes have involved an ATV and five have involved a motorcycle. Thirty-three of the 41 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Eleven fatal victims were restrained.
