| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE News Release Date: March 9, 2008 Troopers Arrest Wanted Felon After Pursuit On Saturday, March 8, 2008, at approximately 5:30 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop E started receiving numerous phone calls concerning a reckless/intoxicated driver. The vehicle of concern was a 1991 Lincoln Town Car and the area of operation was US 71 in the northern part of Rapides Parish. Trooper Joe Dessens quickly located this vehicle and attempted to stop it. The driver refused to stop and fled north on US 71 into Grant Parish. Once in Grant Parish the Lincoln collided with another vehicle, but still refused to stop. The driver continued to lead Troopers on a high speed pursuit, traveling numerous parish, state, and federal roadways during the next 18 minutes. The pursuit eventually reentered Rapides Parish where Trooper Brian Barton and Trooper Adrian Landreneau successfully deployed a tire deflation system (spikes). The vehicle stopped in the Tioga Community where the driver was taken into custody. The driver, Mr. Johnny Ray Desselle (W/M 39 yrs) of Pineville, LA, was booked into the Rapides Parish Jail and charged with DWI 1st, Hit and Run, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Reckless Operation, and Switched License Plate. Mr. Desselle had several outstanding felony warrants out of Rapides Parish and his bond was set at over one million dollars. The crash that Mr. Desselle caused was minor in nature and there were no injuries involved. This is another prime example of “You Drink, You Drive, You Lose!” Impaired driving must be stopped. The percentage of alcohol related fatalities for Louisiana is approximately 46% (2006). Help us intercept impaired/reckless driving by calling your local law enforcement agency or dial *LSP (*577) if you observe this type of driving behavior.
