Litter Campaign

Litter is a major concern, particularly in our area. Each year, the Louisiana State Police takes part in a statewide anti-litter campaign titled “Don’t Trash Louisiana!” This campaign is designed to bring together law enforcement and citizens in the effort to Keep Louisiana Beautiful. In this campaign, the Louisiana State Police work hand in hand with “Keep Louisiana Beautiful, Inc.” a non-profit organization. By utilizing a three pronged approach including education, enforcement, and clean-up, Louisiana and its citizens are able to shed light on the problem of litter and, through community action, are able to make a difference.

This year, “Keep Louisiana Beautiful, Inc.” and the Louisiana State Police are proud to continue the fight against litter in Louisiana, zero tolerance. We are asking the public and all law enforcement agencies to join us in our “Zero Tolerance for Litter!” campaign. This campaign will be held on the weekend of April 4th, 5th, and 6th, 2008. This will be a massive statewide campaign that will include aggressive enforcement of Louisiana’s litter laws, including uncovered loads and illegal dumping. It will also include public education of the dangerous effects of litter, penalties of littering in Louisiana, and through the use of local and statewide media, ways people can stop littering. Clean-up efforts along our beautiful and historic roadways and highways will also be underway.

According to, “Keep Louisiana Beautiful, Inc.” littering costs Louisiana taxpayers $15 million annually, contributes to flooding, and is dangerous to wildlife. Help us in our fight against littering. For more information, visit www.keeplouisianabeautiful.org.

**To further show support for the campaign there will be a multi-agency press conference at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2008, at the I-49 Welcome Center between Boyce and Alexandria. The Louisiana Office of Tourism has graciously volunteered to use this area for all involved parties to show their support. I wanted to personally invite you to the press conference to show your support to Keep Louisiana Beautiful and our local affiliate, Keep Cenla Beautiful, for their efforts to keep our community clean throughout the year.

**The public is also invited to attend. Refreshments will be served and car litter bags, litter bug hotline stickers, etc. will be given out.
