| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE News Release Date: March 26, 2008 Fatal Crash In Rapides Parish On Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at 11:49 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash involving two vehicles. The crash occurred on I-49, milepost 106.6, in Rapides Parish. The crash involved a 1997 Ford F150, driven by Mr. Terence Jon Thompson (W/M 35 yrs) of Montgomery, LA and a 1996 Geo Metro, driven by Mr. Rodney A. Lecoure (B/M 45 yrs) of Natchitoches, LA. The Ford F150 was south bound, on I-49, in the north bound lanes when it collided with the Geo. After the collision both vehicles became engulfed in flames. Mr. Thompson fled on foot after the collision, but was captured and arrested by Troopers after a motorist phoned Troop E and advised a white male was standing near the tree line at milepost 107.0 on I-49. The arrest occurred at approximately 7:20 am (3/26/08). He was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center and charged with Vehicular Homicide, DWI 3rd, Hit and Run Driving, Driving the Wrong Way on a One Way Road, and Driving Under Suspension. Mr. Thompson also had two outstanding warrants, through Natchitoches Parish, for Simple Burglary and Unauthorized Use of a Moveable. Mr. Lecoure was pronounced dead at the scene. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Rapides Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of death. Troop E Troopers have investigated a total of 12 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 12 fatalities. Two of the 12 fatalities have involved pedestrians. Eight of the 10 fatal crashes (vehicle only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Seatbelt use is unknown in one fatal crash.
