| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE News Release Date: March 27, 2008 Local Doctor Arrested On Felony Charges On Wednesday, March 26, 2008, Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigation/Narcotics arrested Dr. Jose’ Gonzalo Zavaleta (W/M 56 yrs) of Pineville, LA. After an extensive investigation it was determined that Dr. Zavaleta, a registered medical physician within the State of Louisiana, prescribed dosage units of CDS Schedule III narcotics (Lortab and/or Lorcet and Hydrocodone). Dr. Zavaleta also prescribed dosage units of a CDS Schedule IV narcotic (Xanax and Phenergan w/ codeine syrup, a CDS Schedule V narcotic). These controlled substances were prescribed to undercover agents for non-therapeutic reasons. Dr. Zavaleta, accompanied by his attorneys, was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention center without incident. He was charged with LRS 40:971C(1) Prescribing Beyond Authority and Accepted Medical Treatment (6 counts). His bond was set at $45,000.00. This investigation was a collaborated effort between Louisiana State Police, DEA, and the Louisiana Medical Board.
