Juvenile Critically Injured In Avoyelles Parish Crash

On Sunday, April 20, 2008, at 1:43 am, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to an injury crash involving one vehicle. The crash occurred on LA Hwy 451, milepost 6.4, in Avoyelles Parish.

The crash involved a 2005 GMC pickup, driven by Mr. Blake J. Lemoine (W/M 19 yrs) of Moreauville, LA. The GMC was north bound on LA Hwy 451 when Mr. Lemoine lost control of his vehicle and ran off the right side of the roadway, colliding with two mailboxes. Mr. Lemoine then overcorrected his vehicle and ran off the left side of the roadway. At this time the vehicle began overturning before coming to rest.

Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor. Toxicology tests and charges are pending.

Mr. Lemoine received moderate injuries and was transported to Avoyelles Hospital.

Mr. Mitch Schexnyder (18yrs) of Rayne, LA was a passenger in the vehicle. He received moderate injuries and was transported to Avoyelles Hospital.

There were also two juvenile passengers (15 yrs and 16 yrs) in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The fifteen year old juvenile received moderate injuries and the sixteen year old received critical injuries. Both were transported to Avoyelles Hospital.

The driver and three occupants were unrestrained at the time of the crash. Both juvenile passengers were ejected from the vehicle.

Although Louisiana Law does not mandate that the rear passenger(s) (except persons under the age of thirteen) is/are properly restrained, it is a smart and mature decision. Seatbelts have been proven to dramatically reduce your chances of being killed or seriously injured in a crash.
