| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE News Release Date: May 8, 2008 Bicycle Helmets To Be Given Away At Alma Redwine Elementary Louisiana State Police Troop E, with the assistance of CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, will be distributing free bicycle helmets at Alma Redwine Elementary School on Friday, May 9, 2008 beginning at 10:30 am. This event will allow us to supply Alma Redwine students with helmets and bicycle safety information. Studies show that up to 85% of serious head injuries sustained in bike crashes could have been prevented by the proper wearing of a bicycle helmet. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development Safe Routes to School Program are funding the Louisiana State Police to provide this training to our school age children. This partnership will allow us to distribute 9,000 bicycle helmets statewide and the associated educational materials to go with it. The overall objective of the program is to educate children in the safe way to ride their bikes to school. This is a great opportunity to promote healthy, active lifestyles. This day will be fun, but more importantly, it may save a child’s life. All members of the media are invited to attend.
