| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE News Release Date: March 20, 2008 Alexandria Man Arrested For “Cruelty To Animals” & “Dog Fighting” On Tuesday, March 18, 2008, Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigation/North District Narcotics arrested Mr. Richard Lee Butler (36 yrs) of Alexandria, LA. Louisiana State Police received information that Mr. Butler was involved in drug trafficking and dog fighting. An intensive investigation was then launched by LSP. Numerous Pitt Bulls were observed, living in poor conditions, during the investigation. Alexandria City Animal Control was contacted in reference to these conditions. After responding they (Alexandria City Animal Control) observed animals living in puddles of water, poor shelter, dogs were under nourished, and had scarring consistent with dog fighting. After observing these conditions, Animal Control removed these animals. A total of 12 adult Pitt Bulls and seven Pitt Bull puppies were rescued. During rescue events LSP observed a dog fighting pit. The pit was bordered by a utility shed, which had splattered dried blood on it. In the center, of the pit, was a piece of pipe hammered into the ground. There was a chain, affixed to the pipe, which also had dried blood on it. As a result, of the investigation, warrants were obtained for Mr. Butler’s arrest. He was charged with Cruelty to Animals (19 counts) and Dog Fighting (12 counts). He was booked into the Rapides Parish Jail. Mr. Butler’s bond was set at $79,000. See attached photos!
