TROOP A NEWS RELEASE Waggaman Man Killed in Ascension Parish Crash Sorrento – Shortly after 5:00 pm on March 17, 2020, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash on Interstate 10 west of LA Hwy 22 in Ascension Parish. The crash claimed the life of 26-year-old Darius Davis of Waggaman. The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as Davis and two other occupants were stopped on the right hand shoulder of I-10 eastbound due to flat tire on a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe. At the same time, 28-year-old Jordan Waddell of Houma was traveling eastbound on I-10 in a 2015 Ford F-250. As Davis and the other occupants were outside of the Tahoe attempting to change the tire, Waddell traveled off of the roadway to the right. After exiting the roadway, the Ford struck Davis, the two occupants, and the rear of the Tahoe. Davis sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The two other occupants sustained moderate injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Waddell was properly restrained and was not injured. He was given a chemical breath test and showed no signs of impairment. After the chemical breath test, Troopers arrested and booked Waddell into the Ascension Parish Prison for violating LRS 14:32 Negligent Homicide, LRS 14:39 Negligent Injuring (Two Counts), and LRS 32:58 Careless Operation. This crash remains under investigation. Motorists should always be cognizant of their surroundings and obey posted traffic control signs. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and obeying all traffic laws can often mean the difference between life and death.
