| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE News Release Date: February 2, 2008 Pedestrian Dies In Mardi Gras Parade Crash On Saturday, February 02, 2008, at 4:55 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash involving one vehicle and a pedestrian. The crash occurred on Community Center Road near LA Hwy 107 in Avoyelles Parish. The crash involved a 2005 Chevrolet pick-up, driven by Mr. Kain N. Sayer (W/M 21 yrs) of Mansura, LA and a pedestrian identified as Mr. Clay Michael Sayer (W/M 16 yrs) of Mansura, LA. The Chevrolet pick-up was towing a Mardi Gras float and was participating in a Mardi Gras parade. The Chevrolet was stopped on Community Center Road while Mr. Clay Sayer talked to participants on the float. Mr. Clay Sayer was positioned between the float and the Chevrolet when Mr. Kain Sayer began to proceed forward. The trailer then struck Mr. Clay Sayer and pinned him underneath. Mr. Clay Sayer was the brother of Mr. Kain Sayer. Mr. Clay Sayer was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Kain Sayer was under the influence of alcohol and was charged with DWI 1st, Vehicular Homicide, and Careless Operation. Avoyelles Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of death. Troop E Troopers have investigated a total of 4 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 4 fatalities.
