| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE News Release Date: February 29, 2008 Fatal Crash In Grant Parish On Friday, February 29, 2008, at 1:51 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash involving one vehicle. The crash occurred on US 167, milepost 143, in Grant Parish. The crash involved a 2000 Ford Escort, driven by Ms. Tequita D. Bryant (B/F 26 yrs) of Winnfield, LA. The Ford was southbound on US 167 when Ms. Bryant lost control, ran off the roadway to the left, and collided with a tree. Ms. Bryant died as a result of injuries sustained in this crash. Grant Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of death. Ms. Bryant was not wearing her seatbelt. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Troop E Troopers have investigated a total of 7 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 7 fatalities. Two of the seven fatalities have involved pedestrians. The other five fatal crashes (vehicle only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants (100% of fatalities unrestrained). Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind/inform motorists that for the year of 2007, the percentage of unrestrained drivers/passengers that died in crashes was approximately 70%. This percentage is for the Troop E area only. Despite Troop E’s aggressive enforcement efforts, regarding seatbelt compliance, the percentage for 2008 thus far is unacceptable. We ask for you to take one second to “buckle up”! Properly wearing your seatbelt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash.
