Unrestrained Driver Dies In Late Night Crash

On Sunday, March 2, 2008, at 11:43 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash involving one vehicle. The crash occurred on US 71, milepost 120.5, in Natchitoches Parish.

The crash involved a 1996 Ford pickup, driven by Mr. Ricky W. Lowery (W/M 42 yrs) of West Monroe, LA. The Ford was south bound on US 71 when Mr. Lowery lost control and ran off the roadway to the right. Mr. Lowery then overcorrected his vehicle and reentered US 71. Once the vehicle reentered US 71 it began overturning.

Mr. Lowery was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Natchitoches Parish Coroner’s Office. Natchitoches Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of death.

Excessive speed is considered a primary factor in this crash.

Routine toxicology tests are pending.

Troop E Troopers have investigated a total of 8 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 8 fatalities. Two of the eight fatalities have involved pedestrians. The other six fatal crashes (vehicle only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants (100% of fatalities unrestrained).
