| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE News Release Date: March 5, 2008 Elderly Man Killed In Early Morning Crash On Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at 6:24 am, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to an injury crash involving one vehicle. The crash occurred on LA Hwy 476, milepost 10.7, in Sabine Parish. This location is east of LA Hwy 191. The crash involved a 2004 Hyundai Sonata, driven by Mr. Jim B. Ferguson (W/M 78 yrs) of Florien, LA. The Hyundai was east bound on LA Hwy 476 when Mr. Ferguson crossed the centerline and ran off the left side of the roadway. The Hyundai then collided with a ditch before colliding with a large tree. Mr. Ferguson was trapped in the vehicle, but he was responsive and was able to provide the investigating Trooper with a statement. Mr. Ferguson stated that he did not remember what had happened prior to the crash, but was on his way to the doctor. After Mr. Ferguson was extricated, from the vehicle, he was transported to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, LA. On Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at 5:00 pm, Mr. Ferguson was pronounced dead. Sabine Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of death. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Mr. Ferguson was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. Troop E Troopers have investigated a total of 9 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 9 fatalities. Two of the nine fatalities have involved pedestrians. Six of the seven fatal crashes (vehicle only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants.
