Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: May 17, 2008 One Vehicle Fatal Crash Claims The Life Of A Pineville Man On Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 1:05 am, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash involving one vehicle. The crash occurred on I-49, milepost 108.8, in Rapides Parish. The crash involved a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant, driven by Mr. Joshua Aaron Johnson (W/M 28 yrs) of Pineville, LA. The Mitsubishi was south bound on I-49 when Mr. Johnson lost control of his vehicle and ran off the left side of the roadway. Mr. Johnson then overcorrected his vehicle and reentered I-49 before exiting the roadway to the right. After exiting the right side of the roadway, the vehicle traveled down an embankment and into a ditch, which was filled with water. The vehicle then began overturning and collided with a tree before coming to rest. Mr. Johnson was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was located face down in approximately two feet of water. He was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Rapides Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of death. Troop E Troopers have investigated 16 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 16 fatalities. Two of the 16 fatalities have involved pedestrians. One fatal crash involved an ATV. Nine of the 13 fatal crashes (vehicle only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Seatbelt use is unknown in one fatal crash. Three fatal victims were restrained. It only takes approximately two seconds to properly buckle your seatbelt. Why take the chance? Seatbelts have been proven to dramatically reduce your chances of being killed or seriously injured in a crash.
