Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: June 24, 2008 Results Of Insurance Checkpoint In Rapides Parish On Tuesday, June 24, 2008, Louisiana State Police Troop E & Alexandria Police Department conducted an insurance checkpoint between the hours of 8:00 am to 10:30 am. The checkpoint was conducted on Lee Street at Industrial Street in Alexandria. During the checkpoint, ten motorists were cited for insurance violations, six seatbelt citations were issued, and three child restraint citations were issued. Officers also issued 16 non-moving violations. During the checkpoint, 649 vehicles were screened. This insurance checkpoint was conducted to encourage compliance with the state’s compulsory insurance law. Our goal is to greatly reduce the number of people driving without insurance and to remove uninsured vehicles off the road. State law requires that proof of valid insurance be carried in the vehicle at all times. Troop E will be conducting numerous checkpoints (i.e. seatbelt checkpoints, insurance checkpoints, and DWI checkpoints) throughout the year. Motorists should expect aggressive enforcement in these areas of interest.
