Fatality Crash In Grant Parish

On Sunday, June 29, 2008, at 4:44 am, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash involving one vehicle and a pedestrian. The crash occurred on LA Hwy 1240, milepost 4.5, in Grant Parish.

The crash involved a 2005 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Mr. Victor J. Guirlando (W/M 22 yrs) of Montgomery, LA and a pedestrian, identified as Mr. James R. Miller (W/M 29 yrs) of Montgomery, LA. Mr. Guirlando was east bound on LA Hwy 1240 when his vehicle collided with Mr. Miller. Mr. Miller was lying in the roadway (east bound lane of travel) at the time of the collision.

Mr. Miller was pronounced dead. He is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.

Mr. Guirlando was not injured.

Routine toxicology tests are pending.

Grant Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of death.

Troop E Troopers have investigated 32 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 36 fatalities. Six of the 32 fatal crashes have involved pedestrians. Four fatal crashes have involved an ATV and two have involved a motorcycle. Fifteen of the 20 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Six fatal victims were restrained.
