Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: July 10, 2008 Fatal Crash In Natchitoches Parish On Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at 7:33 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash involving one vehicle. The crash occurred on LA Hwy 480, milepost 20.6, in Natchitoches Parish. The crash involved a 2000 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Mr. Charlie J. Milner II (W/M 25 yrs) of Coushatta, LA. The Chevrolet was east bound on LA Hwy 480 when Mr. Milner II lost control and ran off the right side of the roadway. He then overcorrected his vehicle, reentered LA Hwy 480, and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the left side of the roadway, the Chevrolet collided with a tree and then overturned. Mr. Milner II was partially ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport for treatment. His only passenger, Merrill J. Scott (27 yrs) of Campti, LA, was totally ejected from the vehicle and died. Neither driver nor passenger was wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor. Routine toxicology tests and charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Natchitoches Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of death. Troop E Troopers have investigated 34 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 38 fatalities. Six of the 34 fatal crashes have involved pedestrians. Four fatal crashes have involved an ATV and two have involved a motorcycle. Seventeen of the 22 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Six fatal victims were restrained.
