Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: May 18, 2008 Pedestrian Killed In Vernon Parish Crash On Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 11:00 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash involving one vehicle and one pedestrian. The crash occurred on US 171, milepost 73.9, and south of Anacoco. The crash involved a 2005 Hyundai Sonata, driven by Ms. Martha A. Brinkley (W/F 52 yrs) of Anacoco, LA and a pedestrian identified as Ms. Tara Annette Garnett (W/F 30 yrs) of Leesville, LA. The Hyundai was south bound on US 171 when Ms. Garnett walked into the roadway. The Hyundai then collided with Ms. Garnett. Ms. Garnett was pronounced dead at the scene. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Vernon Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of death. Troop E Troopers have investigated 17 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 17 fatalities. Three of the 17 fatalities have involved pedestrians. One fatal crash involved an ATV. Nine of the 13 fatal crashes (vehicle only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Seatbelt use is unknown in one fatal crash. Three fatal victims were restrained.
