Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: May 19, 2008 Twenty Year Old Man Killed In Motorcycle Crash On Sunday, May 18, 2008, at 7:05 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash involving two vehicles. The crash occurred on Old Jena Road off LA Hwy 8. This location is in Catahoula Parish. The crash involved a 2007 Honda CR125 (motorcycle), driven by Mr. Billy J. Butler (W/M 20 yrs) of Jena, LA and a 2004 GMC Sierra (pickup), driven by Mr. Vincent Kenneth Williams (W/M 20 yrs) of Jonesville, LA. The Honda was east bound on Old Jena Road when Mr. Butler crossed the centerline into the opposing lane of travel. This action placed the Honda in the direct path of the GMC, which was west bound on Old Jena Road. After Mr. Butler crossed the centerline, he dropped the Honda and began sliding on the roadway. The Honda and Mr. Butler then collided with the front portion of the GMC. The collision occurred in the west bound lane of travel. Mr. Butler was pronounced dead. He was not wearing a helmet. Mr. Williams received minor injuries and was transported to LaSalle Hospital. Two juvenile passengers (GMC pickup) received minor injuries and were transported to LaSalle Hospital. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Catahoula Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of death. Troop E Troopers have investigated 19 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 19 fatalities. Three of the 19 fatalities have involved pedestrians. One fatal crash involved an ATV and one involved a motorcycle. Nine of the 14 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Seatbelt use is unknown in one fatal crash. Four fatal victims were restrained.
