Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: May 23, 2008 Another ATV Fatal Crash; Alcohol Suspected On Friday, May 23, 2008, at 12:08 am, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash involving an ATV. The crash occurred on LA Hwy 156, milepost 12.3, in Winn Parish. The crash involved a 2007 Yamaha ATV, driven by Mr. James T. Jones (W/M 22 yrs) of Goldonna, LA. The Yamaha was west bound on LA Hwy 156 when Mr. Jones lost control of his ATV, ran off the roadway, and collided with several trees. Mr. Jones was ejected from the ATV (upon impact) and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet and alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Winn Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of death. Troop E Troopers have investigated 20 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 20 fatalities. Three of the 20 fatalities have involved pedestrians. Two fatal crashes involved an ATV and one involved a motorcycle. Nine of the 14 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Seatbelt use is unknown in one fatal crash. Four fatal victims were restrained. *The public is reminded that it is dangerous and illegal to operate off-road vehicles (i.e. three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and other all-terrain vehicles) on any public roadway in this state.
