Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: June 4, 2008 Double Fatality Crash In Vernon Parish On Wednesday, June 04, 2008, at 11:48 am, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a fatal crash involving two vehicles. The crash occurred on LA Hwy 8, milepost 20.3, at LA Hwy 117. The crash involved a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Mr. Michael D. Craft (W/M 50 yrs) of Leesville, LA and a 2002 Kenworth (18 wheeler), driven by Mr. Joshua A. Oalmann (W/M 30 yrs) of Welsh, LA. The Chevrolet was south bound on LA Hwy 117 when Mr. Craft failed to yield at the intersection. Upon entering the intersection, the Chevrolet was struck by the Kenworth, which was east bound on LA Hwy 8. Mr. Michael D. Craft was transported to Byrd Regional Hospital and was later pronounced dead. His only passenger, Mr. Michael J. Craft (29 yrs) of Leesville, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and passenger were not wearing their seatbelts. Mr. Joshua Oalmann was transported to Byrd Regional Hospital with moderate injuries. Vernon Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of death. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Troop E Troopers have investigated 22 fatal crashes for the year of 2008, resulting in 23 fatalities. Three of the 23 fatalities have involved pedestrians. Two fatal crashes have involved an ATV and two have involved a motorcycle. Ten of the 15 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Seatbelt use is unknown in one fatal crash. Four fatal victims were restrained.
