Rapides Parish Fatal Crash


A single vehicle crash around the Forest Hill area has left one man dead and another injured.

Troopers responded to the fatal crash today around 5:00 am, which occurred on LA Hwy 112 between US Hwy 165 and I-49. The crash involved a 1996 Ford Explorer, driven by Martin Jimenez-Gomez (O/M 20 yrs) of Forest Hill, LA. The Ford was east bound on LA Hwy 112 when the driver lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle traveled approximately 158 feet before colliding with a tree. After the collision, the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames.

Jimenez-Gomez was trapped inside the vehicle and was unable to escape. He was pronounced dead on the scene by the Rapides Parish Coroner’s Office. He was not wearing his seatbelt. The only passenger, Angel Moncada (O/M 18 yrs) of Lecompte, LA, was able to escape the vehicle and received moderate injuries. He was transported to Cabrini Hospital for treatment.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

Troop E Troopers have investigated 12 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 14 fatalities. Seven of the nine fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Two crashes have involved a motorcycle and one has involved a pedestrian.
