Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: December 21, 2009 Narcotics Suspected In Injury Crash Last night, a crash involving one vehicle seriously injured the driver and injured two passengers. Troopers responded to the crash around 9:00 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 8 at LA Hwy 111 in Vernon Parish. The crash involved a 1999 GMC pickup, driven by John C. Elliott (W/M 26 yrs) of Zavalla, TX. The GMC was east bound on LA Hwy 8 when Elliott attempted to pass a vehicle in a curve. Elliott then lost control of his vehicle and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the GMC collided with several trees before coming to rest in the west bound lane of LA Hwy 8. Elliott suffered serious injuries and was transported to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Susie Dixon (W/F 19 yrs) and an infant, both of Zavalla, TX, were passengers in Elliott’s vehicle. They suffered minor injuries and were transported to Byrd Regional Hospital. All occupants were properly restrained. Elliott is suspected to have been impaired on narcotics at the time of the crash. He was charged with DWI 1st with Child Endangerment (14:98 J), Careless Operation (32:58), No Driver’s License (32:52), and Passing in a No Passing Zone (32:77). Toxicology tests are pending.
