Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: January 8, 2010 Tragedy Strikes The Dupont Community In Avoyelles Parish Early this afternoon, a crash involving a single vehicle killed a juvenile as he was attempting to cross the road. Troopers responded to the crash around 1:10 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 107 near the Dupont Community. The crash involved a 1999 Toyota pickup, driven by Murphy D. Clarke III (W/M 37 yrs) of Plaucheville, LA and a juvenile pedestrian, identified as Thorne C. Chesne (W/M 10 yrs) of Dupont, LA. The Toyota was north bound on LA Hwy 107 when Chesne entered the roadway and stepped into the vehicle’s path. After the collision, the vehicle exited the right side of the roadway, before coming to rest in a ditch. Clarke III was not injured in the crash. He was wearing his seatbelt. Chesne was pronounced dead on the scene. Chesne was not in school today because Avoyelles Parish Schools were not in session. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated two fatal crashes for the year of 2010, resulting in three fatalities.
