Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: November 18, 2009 Teen Seriously Injured In Crash Earlier today, a crash involving one vehicle has left a Cottonport teen in serious medical condition. Troopers responded to the crash around 5:15 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 1179 at Coleman Lane in Avoyelles Parish. The crash involved a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer, driven by Thea T. James (B/F 19 yrs). The Mercury was south bound on LA Hwy 1179 when James crossed the centerline and then overcorrected her vehicle. This action caused the Mercury to exit the right side of the roadway. After exiting the right side of the roadway, James overcorrected her vehicle again, causing it to reenter LA Hwy 1179. Once the vehicle reentered the roadway, it began overturning. James was wearing her seatbelt, but incurred serious injuries. She was initially transported to Bunkie General Hospital, but was later transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center. The crash remains under investigation. Routine toxicology tests are pending.
