Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: April 13, 2010 Avoyelles Parish Fatal Crash Earlier today, a crash involving two vehicles killed one woman and injured another. Troopers responded to the crash around 4:15 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 1 at Gauthier Lane, north of Simmesport, LA. The crash involved a 2007 Toyota Tundra, driven by Erica B. Billiot (W/F 27 yrs) of Murfreesboro, TN and a 1996 Western Star (18 wheeler), driven by Ernest L. Griffin (B/M 63 yrs) of Lettsworth, LA. The Toyota was north bound on LA Hwy 1 when Billiot began passing several vehicles at a high rate of speed. As the north bound Western Star began to turn left onto Gauthier Lane, the vehicles collided in the south bound lane. Billiot was not wearing her seatbelt and was pronounced dead at Avoyelles Hospital. Her only passenger, identified as Jennifer A. Mose (W/F 20 yrs) of Bunkie, LA, was not wearing her seatbelt and received serious injuries. She was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA for treatment. Billiot and Mose were ejected during the crash. Griffin was not injured in the crash. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated 19 fatal crashes for the year of 2010, resulting in 21 fatalities.
