Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: April 15, 2010 Teen Killed In Natchitoches Parish Crash Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a teenager from Natchitoches and injured another teenager from Winnfield. Troopers responded to the crash around 2:15 am, which occurred on LA Hwy 494, milepost 18, in Natchitoches Parish. The crash involved a 2002 Chevrolet pickup. The Chevrolet was east bound on LA Hwy 494 when it exited the right side of the roadway and collided with a guardrail. After this collision, the Chevrolet began overturning before coming to rest in the center of the roadway. Craig T. Darbonne (W/M 17 yrs) of Natchitoches and Parker L. Cummings (W/M 19 yrs) of Winnfield were occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Darbonne and Cummings were not wearing their seatbelts and were ejected during the crash. It is unknown, at this time, which occupant was driving. Darbonne was pronounced dead and Cummings received moderate injuries. Both were transported to Natchitoches Parish Hospital. Alcohol usage is a suspected factor. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated 21 fatal crashes for the year of 2010, resulting in 23 fatalities.
