Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: November 14, 2009 Catahoula Parish Fatal Crash Earlier today, a crash involving one vehicle killed two men and injured another. Troopers responded to the crash around 1:15 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 124 near Harrisonburg, LA. The crash involved a 1990 Acura Integra, driven by Fred Hatten (B/M 57 yrs) of Harrisonburg. The Acura was east bound on LA Hwy 124, passing another east bound vehicle in a marked passing zone. Hatten overcorrected his vehicle, upon returning to the east bound lane, resulting in him losing control and exiting the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle overturned several times before coming to rest. Hatten was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead. Korey R. Washington (B/M 41 yrs) of Harrisonburg and Fred B. Hatten Jr. (B/M 27 yrs) of Jonesville, LA, were passengers in Hatten’s vehicle. Washington was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead. Hatten Jr. was not wearing his seatbelt and received moderate injuries. He was transported to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport for treatment. The crash remains under investigation. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Troop E Troopers have investigated 66 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 80 fatalities. Forty-two of the 55 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. It is unknown if the deceased was wearing a seatbelt in one crash. Six crashes have involved a motorcycle, three have involved a pedestrian, and two have involved an off road vehicle.
