Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: May 30, 2009 Rapides Parish Fatal Crash Last night a Deville man was killed when the vehicle he was operating crashed. Troopers responded to the crash around 8:35 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 1207 approximately 2.7 miles south of LA Hwy 28 East. The crashed involved a 2002 Ford pickup, driven by Dave W. Crooks (W/M 50 yrs) of Deville, LA. The Ford was south bound on LA Hwy 1207 when Crooks lost control and exited the roadway to the right. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle entered a steep drainage ditch and began overturning. Crooks was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at Rapides Regional Medical Center. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated 30 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 34 fatalities. Seventeen of the 24 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Two crashes have involved a motorcycle, three have involved a pedestrian, and one has involved an off road vehicle.
