Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: June 10, 2009 Flatwoods Man Killed In Rapides Parish Crash Earlier tonight, a young man was killed when the vehicle he was operating crashed east of Flatwoods, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 8:30 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 8. The crashed involved a 2005 Ford pickup, driven by Tony E. Daniels (W/M 24 yrs) of Flatwoods, LA. The Ford was west bound on LA Hwy 8 when Daniels crossed the centerline and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the left side of the roadway, the vehicle reentered LA Hwy 8 and exited the right side, collided with several trees, and then overturned. Daniels was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated 32 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 38 fatalities. Nineteen of the 26 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Two crashes have involved a motorcycle, three have involved a pedestrian, and one has involved an off road vehicle.
