Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: June 11, 2009 Fatal Crash In Vernon Parish Earlier today, a single vehicle crash claimed the life of a woman from Pitkin, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 2:15 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 10 east of Pitkin, LA. The crash involved a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by Linda P. Johnson (W/F 54 yrs). The Chevrolet was east bound on LA Hwy 10 when Johnson lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the right side, Johnson overcorrected her vehicle, reentered the roadway, and then exited the left side. The vehicle then began to overturn before it collided with a utility pole. Johnson was restrained; however, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated 33 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 39 fatalities. Nineteen of the 27 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Two crashes have involved a motorcycle, three have involved a pedestrian, and one has involved an off road vehicle.
