| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: June 27, 2009 Grant Parish Fatal Crash Earlier this afternoon, two vehicles collided, which left one woman dead and four other individuals injured. Troopers responded to the crash around 4:50 pm, which occurred on US Hwy 71 at LA Hwy 8. The crash involved a 1993 Dodge Caravan, driven by Henrietta Wakefield (W/F 76 yrs) of Colfax, LA and a 2005 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Jennifer C. Moore (W/F 25 yrs) of Colfax, LA. The Dodge was west bound on LA Hwy 8 and failed to stop at the intersection. This action caused the Jeep (north bound on US Hwy 71) to collide with the driver’s side of the Dodge. Wakefield was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. At this time, seatbelt use is unknown. Moore was transported to Cabrini Hospital with minor injuries. Jesse Niccum (25 yrs) of Colfax, LA and two juveniles were passengers in Moore’s vehicle at the time of the crash. All three received minor injuries and were transported to Cabrini Hospital for treatment. Moore and all three passengers were properly restrained. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated 37 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 45 fatalities. Twenty-one of the 30 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Two crashes have involved a motorcycle, three have involved a pedestrian, and one has involved an off road vehicle. Seatbelt use is unknown in one fatal crash.
