Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: July 1, 2009 **UPDATE**ATV Crash Seriously Injures Teenager **On June 30, 2009 at approximately 5:00 pm, Woodard was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. See below for original news release. Earlier today, an ATV crash seriously injured a teenager from Boyce and left a twelve- year-old with minor injuries. Troopers responded to the crash around 3:30 pm, which occurred on River Road near Rapides Station. The crash involved a 1997 Yamaha ATV (4-wheeler), driven by Thomas Woodard (B/M 18 yrs) of Boyce, LA. The Yamaha was west bound on River Road when Woodard lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the Yamaha collided with several trees. Woodard suffered severe injuries and was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center. His only passenger was a twelve-year-old female. She suffered minor injuries. Neither Woodard nor his passenger was wearing a helmet. The crash remains under investigation. ** Troop E Troopers have investigated 38 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 46 fatalities. Twenty-one of the 30 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Two crashes have involved a motorcycle, three have involved a pedestrian, and two have involved an off road vehicle. Seatbelt use is unknown in one fatal crash.
