Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: July 24, 2009 Two Men Dead In Winn Parish Crash Early this morning, a single vehicle crash around Atlanta, LA killed two men. Troopers responded to the crash around 3:00 am, which occurred on LA Hwy 34 at Pennywell Street. The crash involved a 2001 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Dustin Dewayne Hudson (W/M 27 yrs) of Montgomery, LA. The Chevrolet was east bound on LA Hwy 34 when Hudson lost control and partially exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle reentered LA Hwy 34 and exited the left side before colliding with a tree. Hudson was not wearing his seatbelt. His only passenger, identified as Shawn Michael Clifton (23 yrs) of Montgomery, LA, also was not wearing his seatbelt. Both men were pronounced dead. The crash remains under investigation. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Troop E Troopers have investigated 42 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 51 fatalities. Twenty-four of the 33 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Two crashes have involved a motorcycle, three have involved a pedestrian, and two have involved an off road vehicle. Seatbelt use is unknown in two fatal crashes.
