Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: April 6, 2009 Leesville Woman Dies in Vernon Parish Crash A two vehicle crash in Vernon Parish has killed a Leesville woman.Louisiana State Police Troop E Troopers investigated a fatality crash on LA Hwy 1211 (milepost 3.2) in Vernon Parish on April 6, 2009 at about 1:06 pm. A 2002 Chevrolet Prism was traveling east on LA 1211 when, for unknown reasons, the driver crossed the center line and entered the path of a 2005 Dodge truck. The truck struck the car in a head-on manner. After the impact, the Chevrolet was pushed for a short distance and came to rest in the east bound lane of the highway. The truck continued off the roadway to the right and overturned. The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 70 year old Carolyn McMullen from Leesville, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Vernon Parish Coroner's Office. The driver of the Dodge, identified as 60 year old William Perkins from Leesville, was transported to Rapides Regional Hospital with moderate injuries. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts and alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, but routine toxicology tests are pending. Troop E Troopers have investigated 16 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 18 fatalities. Nine of the 13 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Two crashes have involved a motorcycle and one has involved a pedestrian.
