Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: April 7, 2009 Serious Injury Crash in Rapides Parish An Alexandria man is seriously injured in an early morning crash.The crash occurred on April 7, 2009 at about 12:45 am on I-49 (milepost 77.9) in Rapides Parish. Troop E Troopers investigated the crash and learned that a 2003 GMC Yukon was traveling north on I-49 when the driver lost control and drove through the median. The Yukon continued into the southbound lanes of I-49 where it was struck by a 2009 Pontiac G6. After the collision, the GMC rolled several times before coming to a stop. The Pontiac was pushed off the left side of the road and came to rest in a ditch. The driver of the Pontiac, identified as 54 year old Edward Walker from Alexandria, received serious injuries in the crash. He was transported to St Francis Cabrini Hospital for treatment. His passenger, identified as 54 year old Renita Augman from Berwick, LA, was taken to the same hospital with moderate injuries. The driver of the GMC Yukon, identified as 27 year old Mario Simmons from Alexandria, reported minor injuries from the crash. He refused treatment at the scene. While the crash remains under investigation, Simmons has been issued a citation for Careless Operation. Alcohol use is not suspected as a factor in the crash and seat belts were used by the drivers and the occupant.
