Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: April 13, 2009 Hessmer Man Killed In Crash A single vehicle crash early this morning has left one man dead. The crash occurred north of Fifth Ward in Avoyelles Parish. Troopers responded to the crash around 6:00 am, which occurred on LA Hwy 114 at LA Hwy 1. The crash involved a 2001 Dodge pickup, driven by Glenn A. Gauthier (W/M 51 yrs) of Hessmer, LA. The Dodge was west bound on LA Hwy 114 when Gauthier crossed the centerline and then overcorrected. He then lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a tree. Gauthier was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated 17 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 19 fatalities. Ten of the 14 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Two crashes have involved a motorcycle and one has involved a pedestrian.
