Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: April 23, 2009 Leesville Man Killed In Crash A crash, which occurred early this morning, has left one man dead and three injured. The crash occurred in Vernon Parish, east of Leesville, LA. Troopers responded to the crash around 7:00 am, which occurred on LA Hwy 8 at LA Hwy 184. The crash involved a 1990 Toyota Corolla, driven by Michael E. Doyle (W/M 41 yrs) of Leesville, LA and a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by Sandra D. Kirk (B/F 38 yrs) of Alexandria, LA. The Toyota was west bound on LA Hwy 8 when Doyle turned left into the path of the Chevrolet, which was east bound on LA Hwy 8. The Chevrolet then collided with the passenger’s side of the Toyota. Doyle was wearing his seatbelt, but died from injuries sustained in the crash. Kirk and two juvenile passengers received minor injuries and were transported to Byrd Hospital for treatment. Kirk and both juvenile passengers were wearing their seatbelts. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated 20 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 22 fatalities. Eleven of the 16 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Two crashes have involved a motorcycle and two have involved a pedestrian.
