Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: May 10, 2009 Pineville Man Killed In Crash A crash involving two vehicles has left one man dead and three other individuals injured. The crash occurred yesterday afternoon in Rapides Parish. Troopers responded to the crash around 4:40 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 28 East at LA Hwy 116. The crash involved a 2001 Honda Civic, driven by Shane T. Brown (W/M 22 yrs) of Pineville, LA and a 1990 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Walter G. Kirk (W/M 53 yrs) of Pineville, LA. The Honda was east bound when Brown crossed the centerline and collided head on with the Chevrolet, which was west bound. After the collision, the Honda came to rest in the east bound ditch and the Chevrolet came to rest on the west bound shoulder on its roof. Brown was wearing his seatbelt and received critical injuries. His only passenger, Courtney L. Coleman (19 yrs) of Pineville, LA, was properly restrained and received moderate injuries. Both individuals were transported to Rapides General Hospital for treatment. Kirk was not wearing his seatbelt and was pronounced dead. His only passenger, Juan Lopez (30 yrs) of Pineville, LA, was not restrained and received moderate injuries. Lopez was transported to Cabrini Hospital for treatment. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated 23 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 25 fatalities. Thirteen of the 18 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Two crashes have involved a motorcycle and three have involved a pedestrian.
