Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: May 14, 2009 Crash In Natchitoches Parish Kills Underage Driver A single vehicle crash involving an unlicensed young teenager has killed him. Troopers responded to the crash today around 4:30 pm, which occurred on LA Hwy 490 approximately four miles east of LA Hwy 1. The crash involved a 2002 Ford pickup, driven by Kenneth Brossette (W/M 14 yrs) of Lena, LA. The Ford was west bound on LA Hwy 490 when Brossette passed another west bound vehicle. When Brossette attempted to reenter the west bound lane of travel, he lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the Ford began overturning and came to rest on its roof in the east bound lane of LA Hwy 490. Brossette was wearing his seatbelt, but died from injuries sustained in the crash. Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation. Troop E Troopers have investigated 25 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 27 fatalities. Thirteen of the 19 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Two crashes have involved a motorcycle, three have involved a pedestrian, and one has involved an off road vehicle.
