Edmonson, Superintendent News Release Date: October 3, 2009 Vernon Parish Fatal Crash Earlier today, a single vehicle crash killed a man from Leesville. Troopers responded to the crash around 10:20 am, which occurred on Nona Street near the Fairgrounds. The crash involved a 2005 Toyota pickup, driven by Logan M. York (W/M 69 yrs). The Toyota was east bound on Nona Street at a high rate of speed when York lost control and exited the left side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with several trees. York was transported to Byrd Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. He was not wearing his seatbelt. The crash remains under investigation. Routine toxicology tests are pending. Troop E Troopers have investigated 53 fatal crashes for the year of 2009, resulting in 62 fatalities. Thirty-three of the 43 fatal crashes (passenger vehicles only) have involved unrestrained motorists/occupants. Five crashes have involved a motorcycle, three have involved a pedestrian, and two have involved an off road vehicle.
